Plumber, Drainer and Gasfitter Licences Explained
Queensland runs two licence layers: an occupational licence for the individual doing the pipes and drains, and a contractor licence for the outfit that takes the job on. The QBCC issues both. The first covers the worker's trade skill; the second covers the money and management standing behind the business.
Three classes matter to a homeowner:
Plumber
the fixtures and pipework side of the trade, minus jobs that need a special endorsement.
Drainer
the below-ground territory, meaning house drains, septic lines and trenches, again outside specially endorsed jobs.
Gasfitter
gas work belongs to licensed gasfitters alone, covering the fitting, changing, fixing, checking and signing off of gas systems and their pipework. Before we start a gas job, you're entitled to sight our gas work licence.

How Plumbing Work Is Regulated in Queensland
Oversight splits two ways: the QBCC licenses tradies and administers the register of notified jobs, while your local council deals with permit applications and inspections. Regulated jobs fall into three buckets: work needing a council permit, work that must be notified, and minor work, and only licensed plumbers and drainers may carry out any of the three. The QBCC's stated reason is that this safeguards the home, the owner's health and their legal rights.
The paperwork you receive depends on the job:
- Notifiable jobs end with a Form 4, and the owner receives a copy. If one never turns up, the QBCC can provide it.
- When a gasfitter finishes a new gas installation or an alteration, the compliance certificate for the gas system goes to you on the spot.
The QBCC's registers are public too: you can confirm a licence, and a property search reveals any Form 4 lodged for the address.
Plumbing Across Neighbouring Suburbs
The working patch spreads out from the suburb into its neighbouring suburbs, from Beerburrum and Caboolture through to Wamuran and Toorbul. Woodford and Donnybrook have their own dedicated pages, and the full list sits on our suburbs we cover page. Whether the job is a gas fitting call-out or a full bathroom renovation, the same licensed team turns up.

How a Plumbing Job Runs From Call to Finish
- 1

The call
Ring (07) 3523 7172 or send the form. A clear description helps us bring the right parts.
- 2

The diagnosis
We check the fixture, the supply and, where the fault is buried, the line itself. Houses out School Road way run septic systems, so a slow fixture often sends us to the tank before the house drain.
- 3

The quote
The price is fixed and in writing before anything begins: flat-rate pricing, no hidden fees, and nothing goes ahead until you say so.
- 4

The work and the paperwork
We finish the job, test it with you there, then give you any Form 4 or gas certificate the work requires. Payment is by card or EFTPOS once everything's done, or ask about Fix now, pay later.
